Hey there DIMES! Anyone else like free stuff? I know I do! Podcasts are free entertainment that you can listen to whenever and wherever you want!

Sitting in traffic is just the nature of the beast when you’re living in the world’s most traffic-congested city. There are days where it takes me 30 minutes to drive half a mile.

Instead of letting the traffic put me in a bad mood, I found a way to pass the time by listening to podcasts. Now I can’t imagine life without them!

You can use podcasts in so many ways – to educate yourself, to get your daily dose of the news, to listen to an interview or story – all while you are on the go. You can find a show or episode on pretty much any topic you can think of.

I like all sorts of podcasts, but these are the 5 podcasts that always leave me feeling inspired, motivated, and excited about life!

Podcasts I’m Loving Right Now

1. The Daily

the daily podcastDescription:

“This is how the news should sound. Twenty minutes a day, five days a week, hosted by Michael Barbaro and powered by New York Times journalism.”

Michael Barbaro often interviews journalists or others in the field being discussed on the podcast. Episodes are around 20 minutes and are posted every morning Monday-Friday.

Why I like it:

Sometimes after watching the news I feel depressed after seeing the terrible things happening around me. But, I do like to stay informed on current events, and this podcast has become one of the ways I do that. The episodes are relevant and up to date with what’s going on in the news each day. I also love to listen to the interviews and hear the perspective of people who I otherwise would have never known about. Also, Barbaro has a soothing voice, which is perfect for me in the mornings (I’m not much of a morning person).

2. Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard
armchair expert podcast

Description:

“Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment.”

Shepard brings guests (mostly celebrities/friends) to the podcasts and interviews them. Episodes are typically about 2 hours long and are released each week on Monday.

Why I like it:

My sister told me about his podcast because my boyfriend and I are watching Parenthood, which stars Shepard. I like how open and honest he is during the interviews. He is also a really smart guy and interesting to listen to. The interviews are conducted in a conversational, positive way that makes you feel like you are there chatting with them!

3. Glowing Up

glowing up podcast

Description:

“Esther and Caroline are on a mission to find their inner glowy goddess and share their findings about the worlds of beauty, health, diet and all things girly and glowy. Come glow up with them!”

This podcast is hosted by Esther Povitsky (@esthermonster), a stand-up comic, TV writer, actress, and entrepreneur, and Caroline Goldfarb (@prokchop.biz), a TV & comedy writer, and creator of the celebrity Instagram account @OfficialSeanPenn. They are two friends who share a love for testing out beauty products and the journey of growing into your truth. Episodes are on the longer side from 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

Why I like it:

Esther and Caroline are authentic, smart, and funny girls who interview all kinds of fascinating people. The episode with celebrity nutritionist Kelly Leveque called “What Jennifer Garner Eats” is one of my favorites. Their main focus is beauty and makeup. Best of all, they create a supportive and judgment-free space for their guests, which I love because it leads to open and honest conversations.

4. Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith

3 girls, 1 keith podcast

Description:

“Amy Schumer and friends Bridget Everett, Rachel Feinstein, and Keith Robinson dish about their lives, pop culture, politics, and stand-up comedy. It’s dinner with your besties—if your besties were morally bankrupt. Follow on Spotify so you don’t miss a moment of the madness.”

Episodes are around 35 minutes long and there are 2 seasons available wherever you stream podcasts.

Why I like it:

Amy Schumer is my favorite comedian. I read her book and I’ve seen all her movies, she’s just great. Keep in mind her humor is not for everyone (e.g. my mom doesn’t understand her humor). This podcast is great because it has a casual vibe where you feel like you’re in the room hanging out with them. It’s entertaining and has me laughing the whole time I’m listening.

5. Stuff You Should Know

stuff you should know podcast

Description:

“Join Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant as they get to the bottom of odd questions, like how Twinkies work and if zombies exist. Listen to Stuff You Should Know on demand to enjoy this fascinating biweekly podcast from the HowStuffWorks team. A unique dose of education and entertainment.”

Episode length varies a lot with a few shorter ones that are only 15-20 minutes long, but the normal episodes are anywhere from 40-75 minutes long.

Why I like it:

I love learning new things. I especially love to research the shit out of a topic I find interesting, and listening to this podcast is essentially the same thing. The conversation between the two hosts feels organic and not as scripted as some educational podcasts sound. They do a really good job researching the topic and an even better job explaining it in a way that everyone will understand. Plus, I love knowing little facts that you can whip out when no one’s expecting it.

You can listen to podcasts while you:

  • Commute to work or school
  • Clean your house or apartment
  • Put on makeup/get ready in the morning
  • Walk your dog
  • At night as you’rere winding down/getting into bed.

You can stream them on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Stitcher to name a few.
