Sensitive Skin: Tips & Tricks

  • by

Hello Dimes!! So it’s no secret that I have super sensitive skin. But throughout the years, I’ve experimented with enough products and finally found a regimen that works for my skin. So, today I’ll be going over how to care for sensitive skin – based on my experiences!

Due to some genetic variation, I have super sensitive skin, so once someone smart & trusted (shoutout to my Aunt Jennifer in Houston, Texas who’s a human and molecular geneticist!) recommended I find products containing ceramides, I finally don’t get red with every touch. The brand CeraVe is one of my favorites by far!

“In people with sensitive skin, this barrier is typically weaker, thinner, and more easily damaged, making it easier for irritants to penetrate the skin and cause inflammation.” –

Even if a company claims that a product will result in a certain thing, that doesn’t necessarily mean it works on all skin types — or at all. After breaking out in hives countless times you get pretty fed up with the cosmetic industry. But, after many appointments with doctors and dermatologists, I’ve compiled a dependable list of products that I know won’t cause my skin to react. Plus it’s nice to have some consistency in my routine.

Here are my recommendations for skincare products for sensitive skin!

Caring For Sensitive Skin:

I tried this face cleanser 9 years ago after my aunt recommended it for my sensitive skin and I haven’t stopped using it since! It gently foams up as you massage it into your skin. It fully removes makeup and dirt from your face without being too harsh. It’s great all around! I use it twice a day – in the morning and at night before bed.

A great daily moisturizer with a low SPF in it to keep you protected from sun damage.

Every night, after cleansing & toning, I apply around 2-3 pumps on my face. It absorbs into my skin and I can feel the immediate hydration. The lock on the lid and the pump make this an excellent choice for travelers as well

Best serum out there! The plant-based formula is ideal for sensitive skin folk like me. It’s also free of synthetic color additives and fragrances. I apply this at night—after toner and before moisturizer. I’ve been using it for 1.5 years and have noticed a huge improvement in my complexion (i.e., less redness and reduced hyperpigmentation). Plus, you only need a few drops, so it lasts a really long time!

If any of you get those little bumps on the back of your arms or on your legs, then this is the product for you! It’s essentially a very gentle exfoliator, and it worked wonders for me. I use it about once a week, and that’s all.

I can’t find these online, but if you have a Daiso Japan near you, these are a must! They’re literally just sticky undereye patches, and how they work is that you put your normal face products on (moisturizer & eye cream), then adhere the patches to your under eyes and it locks in the products in your skin.
